Whiplash Is most commonly reffered to a personal injury that is suffered as a result of a car accident.
Although originally whiplash is a type of personal injuy suffered as a result of an accident.
Whiplash is caused normally by the impact of a car accident resulting in the victm of the injury being pushed forward whilst simultaneously being held back by the belt resulting in a whip like effect.
This normally leaves a lash type of mark on the chest and or shoulders. Hence being called whiplash
The whiplash injury can result in many different other injuries along with including back neck shoulder injuries.

In the first 24 hours after the injury, an ice bag or a packed frozen peas applied to the neck will help to relieve inflammation.
An ice bag should first be wrapped in a towel or cloth to avoid direct contact between the skin and the ice. The patient should lie in bed with their head resting on the ice bag for 20 minutes at a time, with the head also supported by a pillow.
If normal painkillers such as paracetamol (eg Panadol) do not help, consult your GPor attend the A and E you should these as soon as you feel discomfort or pain.

Usually the diagnosis is made on the basis of the background of the injury and the patient's description of symptoms. Whiplash cannot be seen on an MRI scan, CT scan or X-ray, although an X-ray is taken if there is a suspicion of fracture or dislocation of the cervical spine.
Whiplash is when the soft tissue in the spine is stretched and strained after the vctim of the personal injury is thrown in a sudden, forceful jerk. The personal injury most commonly occurs in car crashes involving sudden deceleration, but the personal injury can also occur in other physical activities such as diving.
